Guide of Tivoli
In 1550 Cardinal Hippolyte d'Este, son of Lucrezia Borgia and I Alfonso d'Este, built Villa d'Este in the wake of the draft Pirro Ligorio. The town is reputed to be the site of an ancient medieval district called "Gaudente Valley." The magnificent sources are fed by the waters of the Aniene through a series of pipes that pass under the historic centre.
The courtyard, which corresponds to the current entrance of the town, was the faculty of a Benedictine convent built in the monumental building of the town. The Italian-style garden with its beautiful sources is a splendid example of the Renaissance gardens' art and architecture. The most famous are the sources: Source of Bicchierone (Large Glass), the Hundred Fountains, the Source of Ovato, Dragon Power and Power hydro organs (where a body works perfectly placed).
