Naples and Pompei City Guide
Piazza Plebiscito is the largest square in Naples. This is the name adopted by referendum in 1860 that brought the Kingdom of Naples in Italy unified under the House of Savoy. It is bounded on the east by the Royal Palace and on the west by the church of San Francesco di Paola with colonnades extends to both sides.
In the first 19 years of the century, the King of Naples was Murat (Napoleon's brother). I envisaged the construction of the square and as a tribute to the emperor. When Napoleon has been resolved, the Bourbons were restored to the throne of Naples.
Ferdinand I continued construction, but the finished product turned in the church is today. He dedicated to Saint Francis of Paola, who stayed in a monastery here in the 16 century. The church is reminiscent of the Pantheon in Rome. The front facade is a portico of six columns of rest and two Ionic columns. Inside, the church is round with two side chapels. The dome is 53 meters high.
